Toyota is investing $50 million in Telsa Motors and agreed to jointly develop this electric RAV4 with a Telsa powertrain. The first prototype of the electric Toyota RAV4 is in testing, and within this year more will be developed by Telsa and delivered to Toyota for evaluation.

The engineering features of Toyota’s electric vehicles, parts, and production system hope to benefit Telsa. Toyota is excited for the further production of the RAV4 and plans to learn from Telsa’s technology and decision-making.

Telsa Motors is looking forward to contributing to the design and engineering of more conventional electric cars. “Tesla, which in June began selling shares to the public, says it hopes to drive down the cost of electric vehicles so they become within reach of mainstream buyers.” (MSNBC)
