Abdominal Injury Study

In partnership with Virginia Tech, CSRC hopes this study will determine if a specific population is more vulnerable to abdominal injuries during automobile crashes. The focus of the research is on the senior citizen population who appear to be vulnerable to such injuries.

THOR Dummy FE Model Creation

The NHTSA’s upgraded THOR-NT frontal impact crash test dummy is the focus of this research in partnership with two top universities – Virginia Tech and George Washington University. The goal of this research is to promote ongoing research of the THOR model and increase utilization of the more advanced research tool in both the academic setting and industry usage.

Task Analytic and Time Series Analysis of Driver Behavior

The University of Iowa will collaborate with CSRC using test subjects selected from various age groups. By examining foot behavior at various early stages of driving, the study plans to record the information using a simulator. Test subject foot behavior will be recorded during vehicle entry, engine start-up and gear selection.

Whole Body THUMS Validation

This research is designed to study Toyota’s THUMS modeling system and will be conducted in partnership with the University of Virginia. Researchers plan to capture the effects on the “whole body” during complex automobile crashes.
